Charlie is Sacred Earth’s first apprentice. He is now into his second year of learning about land management and animal care. I grew up in rural Sussex and I’ve always felt a deep connection to the land and to the animals that live on it.
A couple of years ago I met Emile, who runs Hathor Farm at Sacred Earth. He totally inspired me and I realised that I wanted to start learning about land management and caring for livestock in an organic and biodynamic way.
Imagine my excitement when, two years ago, an opportunity came up to work as an apprentice at here! I’ve learned so much in the past couple of years and become confident in the care of pigs, sheep and poultry. I’ve been taught about how to manage woodland and my knowledge of plants and wildlife has grown immensely. The team has been fantastic in sharing their knowledge with me.
I’m really looking forward to 2019 because I’ll have my own tenancy on the land and and I’ll be raising chickens – a project I like to call ‘Chickeonpolis’. Fresh organic eggs available soon.
It’s my dream to have my own smallholding one day and Sacred Earth has been a very important part of that journey.
Charlie also supports our Earth Steward Apprentice programme. He looks after the fires, cooks and helps out with all the activities.
