I grew up on a housing estate in Fife, but my fondest childhood memories are of the natural world. There were patches of wasteland in my hometown, where us kids could run free. Our favourite thing was to jump the local stream, trying different places until, inevitably, someone fell in.

Today, as in most towns and cities, none of that wild land remains. Urban kids can no longer enjoy such simple pleasures. Stuck at home, too often on screens, they have no relationship with nature. In a world in which climate change is already happening that’s a disaster. After all, they’re not going to fight for what they don’t love. That’s why Sacred Earth is so important.

I came to Sacred Earth after setting up That Dot, a consultancy, helping environmental organisations and businesses with PR, communications and written content. My background is both commercial and editorial. I worked in PR in London for a decade, on brands like Coca-Cola, Disney, Marks & Spencer and Ikea. Later, I retrained as a journalist and spent six years writing for the Financial Times. I also freelanced for The Guardian, The Observer and The Independent.

It was becoming a mother that changed things for me. After my daughter was born, I grew increasingly worried about the world we’re leaving to our children. I decided to use my skills to do something useful for the environment. Sacred Earth is an excellent place to start.
