We have some great news to share! We’ve won funding to help us protect the delicate ecosystem around our clay pit pond, whilst ensuring that our human visitors can also enjoy this beautiful wild space too.

The High Weald Sussex Lund Fund will support us to build a pond dipping deck and board walks around the lake fringes this winter. This means we can ensure that our new nature trails support more access to the site without damaging the sensitive eco-system that exists here.

Right now the tree colours are coming alive with hues of yellows on the hornbeam, field maple and birch, orange from the oaks and the dazzling deep red from our red maple tree. Animals have been really busy collecting and harvesting winter stores and and preparing for the coming darker months. Many of our summer bird visitors have moved southwards, while our regular residents have changed http://www.snortrescue.org/online-aciphex their songs to winter variations.

My favourite at the moment is the pair of grey wagtails who love the wall that dams the lake fringes. The little wren has moved back into our tea hut so we are aiming to place a new bird box in there before spring comes, to give her the best chance of raising wee ones.

In December we hope to start hosting regular volunteer conservation days. Would you like to help us build new areas for conservation and ecological richness? This could include working on the new pond boardwalks and trails or the habitats that surround them, making signs and bird boxes, or working on natural beaver technology for stream bank support and flood prevention.
